Education

It is a tragedy, that since 2000, public schools in North Minneapolis have lost half of our students to charter, private and nearby suburban schools. Public schools in North Minneapolis have also been closing at an alarming rate. We need to ensure students receive the best education and close the academic achievement gap between white and minority students.

The rising cost of a secondary education is keeping the dream of attending college, just that, a dream for our youngsters. We have to be more efficient when it comes to spending valuable tax dollars.

Public Safety

The majority of violent crimes that occurred in 2006 in Minnesota have been on the North Side. Residents have a right to feel safe in their homes, streets, and parks! This has caused many businesses to leave and invest in other areas of Minnesota when it is needed most in our district. As State House Representative, I would work tirelessly with local officials to identify and have a presence in problem areas resulting in a reduction in misconduct. I would also work with businesses to reinvest in our district, which will help revitalize our neighborhoods.

Community Involvement

We must ensure the community is aware of the problems affecting our neighborhoods in 58B and make certain residents are made aware of the resources available to the community. By working together with community leaders, advocacy groups, and the residents of 58B, we will finally change the problems residents have been facing for too long!
